Two Minutes Hate
Yesterday, myself and others in my English class discussed "1984" and our ideas on what all of us have read so far in the book. For the most part, we are all around the same area in the book, and most of us know what is happening in the story, and some key points. An idea that we questioned the most was on how in one particular scene, they have a "Two Minutes Hate" session, or whatever you want to call it. Apparntly, a bunch of people are gathered together in one room, in front of a large screen. Some man's face appears on this screen, and the people in the room all proceed in unison at screaming at the face on the monitor. None of us know what this is about, or what the purpose was, but I am sure that we will find out by reading on in the story.

Will - Don't stop here.. You raise some questions, try to answer them. Look in the book for clues that could help provide the answer. The purpose of these blogs is to help you question and comprehend what you read.
BTW, check out that video on your site with the 1984 Apple computer commercial and the recent anti-Hillary Clinton political ad. Both are based on ideas from the novel you are reading.
The man is Goldstein.
Think of him as the opposite political candidate, Al Gore to our George Bush, if you will.
And yes, it's called Two Minutes Hate. Its purpose is more or less explained in the coming pages after the TMH.

You'll see that two minutes hate is something that is a regular occurance to this society. Once you read up to it you'll probably start questioning some things about it. One of the main questions that I had was do these people really care about the mans face on the screen and who he is or what he did, or do they do ti because they have to and secretly support what he did?
It seems that it is a very strange concept, but in reality its not. Try to connect to real life situations and events in wich there really have been "Two minutes of hate" THis blog helped me out in understanding what it actually was, so, thanks for that. I think you have a good understanding
Will, your description of the two minuets of hate is pretty vague. If you were to read closer, you would see who they were yelling at and why. The government was trying to get them to stay against Goldstein and with them so they polluted their minds to stay loyal to them.
Thanks to everybody who left the comments. I now see more clearly on what exactly I was writing about, and understand this part of the story better. :)
Oy, comrade, read my blog.
